SACRAMENTO, October 16, 2024 - The California State Board of Food and Agriculture will meet at the opening of FIRA USA in Woodland, CA to discuss agricultural innovation and technology. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at the Yolo County Fairgrounds – Home Arts Building, 1250 Gum Ave., Woodland, CA, 95776.
“Innovations in agricultural technology are assisting California’s farmers and ranchers in meeting on-farm needs – improving efficiency, sustainable pest management and water use,” said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. “This technology is also providing opportunities within the agricultural workforce by scaling-up jobs and developing career pathways.”
FIRA USA is an event and forum that highlights agricultural robots and autonomous solutions for a variety of crop types from vegetables and vineyards to fruit and tree nuts. The 3-day event includes field demonstrations, exhibits and panel discussions. FIRA USA is a co-organized by the Global Organization for Agricultural Robotics (GOFAR), Western Growers and the VINE – an initiative of the University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Invited Board speakers include: Connie Brown, Farmhand Ventures; Glenda Humiston, University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources; Gabriel Youtsey, The VINE; Walt Duflock, Western Growers; Maialen Cazenave, GOFAR; Gwendoline Legrand, FIRA and other invited speakers.
“I’m looking forward to attending FIRA and seeing the automated field trials,” said President Don Cameron, California State Board of Food and Agriculture. “As we continue to discuss agricultural technology and innovation, it is crucial to develop demonstrations and field trials that show viability of this technology for growers of all scale and size.”
The California State Board of Food and Agriculture advises the governor and CDFA secretary on agricultural issues and consumer needs. The Board conducts forums that bring together local, state and federal government officials; agricultural representatives; and citizens to discuss current issues and concerns to California agriculture.
