SACRAMENTO, October 30, 2026 – The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Office of Farm to Fork announces proposals are being accepted until December 4, 2026, for the 2027 California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP) Expansion – Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP) and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). CNIP was established to encourage the purchase and consumption of healthy, California-grown fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts by nutrition benefit clients, including CalFresh, WIC, WIC FMNP and SFMNP participants.
CDFA is seeking project proposals from qualified entities to distribute CNIP incentives at Certified Farmers’ Markets to purchase California-grown fresh fruits and vegetables, and provide support, outreach and technical assistance for WIC, WIC FMNP and SFMNP shoppers and market vendors utilizing electronic Farmers’ Market Cards. These incentives will be available to shoppers using WIC, WIC FMNP and/or SFMNP benefits. Participants should be able to receive the incentive at the time of purchase. Projects that reach low-access areas and low-income populations, particularly communities where a large proportion of the population is eligible for nutrition benefits (such as CalFresh, WIC, WIC FMNP and SFMNP) and experience high rates of diet-related diseases, will be prioritized. This is a competitive process.
Visit the CNIP webpage to view the 2027 CNIP Expansion request for proposals (RFP) and to register for an informational webinar. The RFP includes further information on the grant program, its implementation, timeline and application criteria. The informational webinar will be held at 11 a.m. PT November 18 for grant applicants to receive additional information and have the opportunity to ask questions. Applications must be submitted by email to cafarmtofork@cdfa.ca.gov no later than 5 p.m. PT December 4, 2026.
